MN Boating Rental Permit Requirement (effective July 1, 2025)

Effective July 1, 2025, the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources requires that all individuals age 18 or older to possess a valid Minnesota Boater Education Permit to operate any motorized rental watercraft on Minnesota waters. As a licensed watercraft rental provider, we are legally obligated to comply with this new regulation. No exceptions can be made for unqualified operators.

✅ Who Must Have a Boater Education Permit:

Any person age 18 or older renting and operating a motorized vessel on MN Waters

🚫 Exemptions from the Requirement:

• Individuals holding a valid NASBLA-approved boating safety certificate

• Out-of-state residents operating a motorized vessel on Minnesota waters for 60 days or less

Deposit Refund Schedule

We understand that plans can change, and we have structured our refund policy to be as accommodating as possible:

30+ Days Before the Scheduled Service: If you cancel your reservation more than 30 days before the scheduled date, you are eligible for an 80% refund of your initial deposit.

14-30 Days Before the Scheduled Service: Cancellations made between 14 to 30 days before the scheduled service will receive a 50% refund of the initial deposit.

7-14 Days Before the Scheduled Service: If you cancel 7 to 14 days before the scheduled date, you are eligible for a 25% refund of your initial deposit.

1-7 Days Before the Scheduled Service: Cancellations made between 1 to 7 days before the scheduled service are not eligible for a deposit refund. The initial deposit will be retained to cover preparatory expenses incurred.

Providing notice well in advance helps us manage our schedule and possibly accommodate other clients. We appreciate your understanding and cooperation with these policies, which help us ensure that our services are planned and executed with the highest standard of quality for all our clients.

Poor Weather Policy

Severe weather is defined as weather where there are unsafe conditions, a warning of severe, high wind advisory or tornado as defined by the National Weather Service (NWS). If there are severe weather conditions in the Battle Lake area prior to departure time, then the rental reservation will be postponed. Subject to the severe weather policy; you will be able to reschedule the reservation without re-booking fee during the same rental request (weekday rental for a weekday rental) within a 30-day period and depending on boat availability. If weather conditions are overcast, cold, cloudy and rainy, but no warnings are issued by the NWS, your rental still stands for the day. If the weather turns severe while you are on the lake, return to shore. You must always be weather aware and start heading back as soon as the weather looks bad. If you are unable to return, seek a place of safety such as a cove or a protected shoreline and call us immediately. Anchor the boat at the bow (front) into the wind. We will not give refunds for time not used during a pop-up storm.

Additional

We have the right to refuse a rental to anyone who appears to be under the influence of drugs or alcohol. Your rental will be forfeited, and no refund will be given. We reserve the right to cancel any rental at any time due to extreme conditions deemed unsafe. There are no refunds due to late check-ins, early return, change of plans, illness, weather, or car problems.
